VH Essentials Lutein & Zeaxanthin

VH Essentials Lutein & Zeaxanthin is a high-potency lutein and zeaxanthin (xanthophyll carotenoids) product to be taken either on its own, or with any Viteyes formula.

What makes lutein unique from other antioxidants such as vitamin C or beta-carotene is the fact that it is highly concentrated in the macula, the part of the eye that's responsible for central vision. Like lutein, zeaxanthin is found in the macula, however it is much more concentrated in the centre part of the macula compared to lutein. Collectively lutein and zeaxanthin are known as macular pigments and cannot be made in the body so are consumed in our diet. Whereas a third macular pigment, meso-zeaxanthin, is usually made in the body and found less in our diet.

These natural pigments are also found in brightly coloured fruits and green leafy vegetables. Therefore, a fair amount of lutein and zeaxanthin can be obtained from a healthy diet, however not everyone can manage this so supplements can play a role in maintaining healthy levels of these nutrients in the eyes.
